I am asked more and more often for help when clients are choosing their prints from a session. My latest comment from people is “I wish I would have ordered the print larger”. We are under an impression that 8×10 and 11×14 are enlargements. When you really receive your “enlarged” 8×10, you realize just how small it really is. The other assumption that people have is that you can’t go large with a photograph (or a painting) in a small home. If you look at the above photo (this is my home) you will see a 30×45in canvas (divided into three panels) as a focal point in my room. I have a 1000sq ft home, so “small” it is. I get more compliments on this canvas and the impact it has in my little house than anything else I have ever displayed. Its clean, simple and draws the visitor’s eye. So don’t be afraid, if you have a photo that you love love love, order it big.

I will recommend which photos make for great canvases. Something this large is not inexpensive, so I do recommend going with what I call a “timeless” photograph. My children are wearing simple clothing, looking away from the camera and enjoying a moment in time. Have you ever watched any of the gazillion home improvement shows and paid attention to how they display their photos? My favorite for this example is Extreme Home Makeover. 9/10 times the designers say “We found these old photographs and blew them up to 16×20 or 24×36 to create a memorable impact” I pulled an image from on of their makeovers….see below
So don’t be afraid, if you love the photos…go for it! I am always happy to consult in your home during an ordering session.

I was honored with JoAnne of Pink Confetti Kidz contacted me to photograph some of her new line for Spring. I was even more honored that she was SOOOOOO incredibly patient in waiting for this snow to melt so I could get these taken! Pink Confetti Kidz use of fabric and colors keep the spirited little girl in mind. Her craftmanship is fantastic as well. I highly recommend you check out her online store. My little model loves all the clothes, it doesn’t hurt that she has a love for animals and cake…so the owl dress and birthday shirt were hits!

As this crazy snow melts, I find myself thawing out in more ways than one. It has been a long, emotional, trying winter. I have experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows all within a few months, what a whirlwind! As Spring starts to slowly peek out, I feel like I am peeking out of this fog also. I am so thrilled to be back behind my camera on a regular basis. My camera = therapy. I have had the pleasure of emailing many aspiring photographers over the last month and have so enjoyed helping them start their businesses, answer their questions and just give them the encouragement they might need to go for it. Now its time for me to further hone my craft and take my business to the next level. So keep checking back, as I will be doing some “I survived the 2010 snowpocalypse” packages. Oh, and keep contacting me with your questions, it truly brings me such joy in helping other photographers take the plunge!
One of the things I have enjoyed most as I get older is watching a close friend become a mother. Especially when that friend is someone that that you have shared some key life moments. I always find it interesting how different people are as parents. Often not what you expect. I always new my beautiful friend would be a wonderful mother and I have never been more right. Little “J” came into this world during the big blizzard and could not have fallen into better hands. The “F” family are calm, cool and collected as they step into this new phase of their life. I so enjoyed my time with this beautiful little threesome. Enjoy your sneak peek and only more to follow!

Little "J" is telling his mama he loves her...love the crossed arms

I gotta say, I timed this vacation exactly right! I was so good about truly taking time for myself and my family, but I am back and so excited! I am excited to announce that I am pregnant with number 3 and I am not sure I would have survived this first trimester if I had not taken the time off. This baby is kicking my tail with regard to energy level, but I am now in the 2nd trimester and my energy is slowly returning (a little slower than I like, but I will take it!)
I was able to photograph baby “A” after capturing her moms baby bump in the snow (remember her?) Baby “A” was a few days early and then we were socked in by this crazy snowstorm, so our session was delayed, but we finally were able to make it happen. Baby “A” was a tough little cookie, but she finally gave in! I love the first one above, I feel like she is giving the “A-OK” with her hands…..maybe she was saying …”Okay, you got the photo, now please leave!” Enjoy “B” family, more to follow soon! I hope the rest of my faithful followers will come back often to check out my upcoming sessions, my personal documentations of my growing family and a whole lot more!

I need to talk a little about the good things in life. Most of us have so much to be thankful for, I know I do. Life might feel like a whirlwind at times, especially when change after change is thrown your way (expected and the unexpected)! If the change is a good thing, do you really have the room to complain? Yes, life can be down right exhausting, but lets keep it all in perspective. Look at the things in your life and say “Thank You” Say it to whomever you want to, I say it to the big guy upstairs, everyday I am so thankful for all of my life happenings.
Baby boy “c” has two parents whom I think are quite thankful. The doting parents for sure. This little guy wasn’t sleeping for me, but that is ok. This little guy was a cutie. Enjoy your sneak peek.

First off, I need gloves. Gloves I can shoot with. So if you are reading this and have a recommendation on good photographer gloves, leave me a note. My fingers are still frozen from playing with these two wild boys. They were troopers. I have known these two little guys their whole lives, so it was so fun capturing their spirit. What cuties….enjoy!

What is it about a newborn? I guess if they weren’t so precious, the world would have stopped a long time ago. No one would have put up with exhaustion that comes with this little bundle if they weren’t precious little miracles! I spent my morning with the “D” family and sweet baby girl “M” Such a sweet girl. Beautiful weather, beautiful babies and we just may have a white Christmas here in VA! Enjoy the sneak peek!

Being from Colorado, I am a bit of a snow snob. The snow here in Virginia is lacking….a lot! 95% of the winter is what the local weathermen like to call a “wintery mix” i.e. sleet…call it what it is. However, today was the real thing. No, it wasn’t champagne powder like I had in Steamboat, but is was big, juicy flakes falling most of the day. There was a lot of moisture, but that will never change and that is okay, I mean this is the East Coast. So I am thrilled we a) got a decent snow this year and b) it fell in December and c) I got to spend part of it taking photos of the “B” couple, soon to be family of three.
Enjoy your sneak peek and I will see you in January to meet little boy/girl “B”!

I lived in a town that you could easily leave for the day and be back for dinner. Playing in creeks, hiking, walking into town to get the latest record album….ahhhh, those were the days. I always get a little sad that my kids probably will not experience that. Times have changed. However, not for the “D” family, at least to some extent. They live near a beautiful place that allows them to hike around, play in creeks, and throw stones. It is gorgeous, so hopefully they can experience what many of us experienced as kids.

The “P” family was my date this morning and what a blast they are. Little girl “M” is just 14 months older than her twin brothers “A” and “J”…phew! Hats off to mom and dad! Lots of energy and they all know what they like. The little guys made my heart melt when they announced “We wish you were in our family!” What a treat this blustery Thanksgiving weekend! Off to my crying little guy….more to come tomorrow! Thanks for having me “P” family! The rest will be done as soon as I can!!
