I need to talk a little about the good things in life.  Most of us have so much to be thankful for, I know I do.  Life might feel like a whirlwind at times, especially when change after change is thrown your way (expected and the unexpected)!  If  the change is a good thing, do you really have the room to complain?  Yes, life can be down right exhausting, but lets keep it all in perspective.  Look at the things in your life and say “Thank You”   Say it to whomever you want to, I say it to the big guy upstairs, everyday I am so thankful for all of my life happenings.

Baby boy “c” has two parents whom I think are quite thankful.  The doting parents for sure.  This little guy wasn’t sleeping for me, but that is ok.  This little guy was a cutie.  Enjoy your sneak peek.

Brothers! | Herndon Family Photographer

img_73181First off, I need gloves.  Gloves I can shoot with.  So if you are reading this and have a recommendation on good photographer gloves, leave me a note.  My fingers are still frozen from playing with these two wild boys.  They were troopers.  I have known these two little guys their whole lives, so it was so fun capturing their spirit.  What cuties….enjoy!

What is it about a newborn?  I guess if they weren’t so precious, the world would have stopped a long time ago.  No one would have put up with exhaustion that comes with this little bundle if they weren’t precious little miracles!  I spent my  morning with the “D” family and sweet baby girl “M”  Such a sweet girl.  Beautiful weather, beautiful babies and we just may have a white Christmas here in VA!  Enjoy the sneak peek!

Snow! | Mclean Virginia Maternity Photographer

img_6450

Being from Colorado, I am a bit of a snow snob.  The snow here in Virginia is lacking….a lot!  95% of the winter is what the local weathermen like to call a “wintery mix” i.e. sleet…call it what it is.  However, today was the real thing.  No, it wasn’t champagne powder like I had in Steamboat, but is was big, juicy flakes falling most of the day.  There was a lot of moisture, but that will never change and that is okay, I mean this is the East Coast.  So I am thrilled we a) got a decent snow this year and b) it fell in December and c) I got to spend part of it taking photos of the “B” couple, soon to be family of three.

Enjoy your sneak peek and I will see you in January to meet little boy/girl “B”!

Being kids | Arlington VA children photographer

img_6345

I lived in a town that you could easily leave for the day and be back for dinner.  Playing in creeks, hiking, walking into town to get the latest record album….ahhhh, those were the days.  I always get a little sad that my kids probably will  not experience that.  Times have changed.  However, not for the “D” family, at least to some extent.  They live near a beautiful place that allows them to hike around, play in creeks, and throw stones.  It is gorgeous, so hopefully they can experience what many of us experienced as kids.

Paying if Forward, Round 1 | Burke, VA family photographer

img_6638

I am honored to give the gift of custom photography to this beautiful family, the “K” family.  I have known of them via a relative of theirs for sometime, so when she mentioned them again, I had no hesitation.  I received the email, and responded immediately that I would be honored to take their photographs.  This family is one of two this year, my second will be notified later tonight and when they are, the details will be given.  I thank all of you for your nominations!  If I could do this for all of them, I would.  The nominations touched my heart.

The “K” family is  a sweet foursome.  Mom and Dad have a kindness in their eyes that leaps out at you, big sister “M” is a sweet 8 year old going on 18 that has “care-giver” stamped on her forehead, she takes care of her little sister with complete and total selflessness.   Little sister “A” has to be the most inquisitive “soon to be 5 yr old” I have ever met, she is smart, funny and a complete joy to be around.  I believe you can feel her curiosity in the bell photo toward the end of this post….wondering how the beautiful sounds come from a bell.  Enjoy your sneak peek!  The rest to follow soon!

November 30, 2009 - 6:50 pm terri - Jennifer, I just had to comment on the "COMMENTS"....yes, the girls look like ANGELS and they "are" most of the time! November 28, 2009 - 6:03 am Ashli - Jennifer!!! Ditto to my mom and sister's comments above... tears in my eyes, too! (we are related after all ;) What amazing photos and to have captured the BLUE in Ally's eyes that we have not seen in so,so long. Your talent is amazing and your generosity of this precious gift for my sister and her familiy will be cherished always. THANK YOU.

November 27, 2009 - 4:40 pm terri - Dear Jennifer, I am M and A's grandmother. They call me "Teetay." I have tears in my eyes as I write this, for you, not only captured those beautiful faces and EYES, you captured the "heart" of their family. In a short morning, you "knew" them and your photos captured the rest. Yes, the "blue" in Ally's eye was found by your camera. Thank YOU for that! And, thank you for paying it forward. I wish you the BEST. Terri, a very proud mom and grandmother!

November 27, 2009 - 3:49 pm Kristin - WOW, Jennifer! You are FAST! I am loving what I'm seeing... got teary-eyed too reading your comments about our family and seeing the pictures of the girls! We knew "A" had blue eyes, but haven't seen that blue in a long time. Thank you for taking the time with her (and us) to recapture that! We are SO greatful! What a Thanksgiving blessing YOU are to us! :-)

sweet and sour | Washington DC Family Photographer

img_6375

I wanted to put a few things out there that make me really happy and just a few that I could do without…..

Things I am sweet on…..

Fall Weather!  The crisp air and beautiful colors make for great photos, everytime!

Hot Chocolate with marshmallow fluff!  I have yet to have a cup this Fall and this is simply wrong.  I must partake soon.

My Shootsac, this magical bag has made my shooting so much easier!  If you are a photographer, get one.  Don’t ask questions, just do it!  Oh, and they are having a little sale right now, so no excuses!

Things that put a sour taste in my mouth…

Rudness!  We all have bad days, but take a deep breath and don’t take it out on the rest of us.

Cellphones - I know, if  you know me, you  know I do have a problem with cellphones, I am on my 4th one this year!  They haunt me, break and occasionally get dropped in the kiddy pool, but I must have one.  I love the bells and whistles, if they work.  I am a gadget geek at times and do like to have the coolest toys out there, but my life won’t accomodate this craving.

Two toddlers + expensive gadgets = disaster waiting to happen.  So I wait for my beloved iPhone, its just not meant to be, hopefully one day!

Oh and one more love….the family I photographed yesterday afternoon.  Can you get enough of these two?  Like I mentioned in my last post, it was a day of uber fashionable kids.  So thank you to the mom and dad for bringing their A game!

Enjoy!!

sisters! | Arlington, VA family photographer

img_6340

There is something about sisters.  A shared connection, an instant friend.  Something special.  Growing up I was blessed with a pretty terrific sister.  During a particular low point of our friendship (I think I was 17ish) a family friend told me “Jennifer, boys will come and go, but sisters are forever”  So true, so true.  My sister is my best friend and I am pretty darn lucky.  I hope that the “W” sisters know this at their ripe ages of 5 and 7, I almost feel like they do!  There is the soulful Ms. “G” and the party girl “J”, they were such a blast.  Thank you for having me to your tea party and sharing your favorite books!

Today’s sessions were another round of uber fashionable kids.  Thank you to Jcrew’s crewcuts for having such fabulous clothing!

Here is Ms. G being the party one, she is well balanced!

Ahhhh, Sunday night | Washington DC family photographer

img_6089

How I love Sunday nights.  Not sure why, when I was working outside of the home, I wasn’t a fan.  Now, I love them…odd.  Maybe its because I feel so accomplished after a weekend of shoots (4 this weekend to be exact..phew!) or maybe its the fact that I love the fact that my little family of four was altogether. We had beautiful weather, happy kids (for the most part ;) and even a date night thrown in, can’t beat that!

Here are some photos of my 2nd  “M” family.  Don’t you just love these two little twins?  Is that redundant?  So adorable, thanks “M” family.  Your instant family of four is precious.  Enjoy is scrumptious age, 6 months is one of my favorite to photograph!
